Sweet Chestnut (Castanea sativa)

Life expectancy: 200-800 years
Chestnuts will begin to bear in 3-5 years after planting, has been known to take up to 20 years to yield crop.
Season of nut productivity: Autumn (March/April)
Origin and location: believed to be cultivated by the Ancient Romans and Asian Minor. Found worldwide. (especially in China)
Average annual rainfall (approximation) in my origin; 820.8 mm. The optimum rainfall for chestnut trees is 800 mm.

Family: Fagaceae
Genus: Castanea

Trees have been used in landscaping as wood in England. When cut open you can see interesting spherical patterns.
In dormant stage, chestnuts produce better crop when subjected to chill temperatures.
Castanea like a full sun position.
The Roman soldiers used to eat Chestnut porridge before going into battle.

My tree measurements (although Sweet Chestnuts can grow well upto 25m in height):
-height; 4.5 meters
-width; 4 meters
– trunk; (base) 40 cm diameter.
