My tree friend: black mulberry

I’ve decided to choose black mulberry as my first tree friend because six or seven years ago I planted one and now it’s some five meters high and full of mulberries. We’re enjoying them a lot…

Here I share what I’ve learned about it..

Black Mulberry (Morus Nigra)

a) Life expectancy of more than 100 years.

b) 5 years (anyway, mine started fruiting at year 2).

c) Spring

d) South Western Asia

e) 20/40 inches

f) Morus Nigra, Moraceae

g) The mulberry tree is a fast growing tree, so it’s good for its shadow. It can be coppiced for fuel. It’s great for feeding wildlife (it produces a huge amount of fruits that can be shared with other animals…). A fiber can be obtained from the bark; a dye from the fruit. It can be used as a tutor for grapes. It’s said to have medicinal uses too.

h) 6-13 metres high, 6-15 metres wide. I haven’t found data about the tree trunk, but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t grow too much big (50 cm or so).
